“The Huntsville Sports Commission has hosted many events over the past 13 years. Having the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team play in Huntsville was one of our greatest highlights. I have never seen such a ground swell of support by so many community groups and Military service agencies to welcome these great heroes to Huntsville, AL. I was made aware of the team through a board member that saw the team featured on ESPN. I visited the website and found the contact information, picked up the phone and called Coach David Van Sleet, to my surprise he was familiar with Huntsville and had many friends in our city. Knowing that many communities were trying to get the team to come to them, we knew that we needed to come up with a good plan to convince them to visit us. We were successful and a date was selected to coincide with our Armed Forces Week celebration. The great thing about the team is that this is not just a softball team playing a softball game. They have an inspiring message to share, overcoming challenges and uniting communities that gives everyone a new outlook on life. I would highly recommend bringing the team to play in your community, we are glad that we did!”
